Workshop Overview:

Join artist Brighid Jamieson for a supportive, hands-on workshop designed to energise your creative spirit, develop your skills and help you explore your unique visual language and storytelling.

In this workshop, you are invited to get curious, experiment, and play as you immerse yourself in the joy of making. Mixed-media collage is a wonderfully freeing, low-pressure way to build rich, expressive artwork. Because you begin by gathering everyday materials and creating painted papers to rip, chop, layer, and rearrange, there is no intimidating blank canvas to contend with.

Rather than asking ‘What should I make?’, collage encourages you to ask: ‘What am I responding to?’ Exploring this creatively rich question can help you discover visual elements that resonate with you, providing insights into your unique visual language and storytelling voice.

What you will learn and explore

Through guided exercises, tutor demonstrations, and plenty of practical support, you will have the opportunity to explore:

• The magic of mark making, experimenting with a range of media and mark making tools
• Creating unique collage papers using range of mixed media techniques
• The essentials of mixed media, including artist tricks and tips for using adhesives, building texture, layering & assembling varied ephemera
• Key aspects of composition for more cohesive, balanced, visually impactful layouts
• Your creative voice, including your unique visual vocabulary and story telling.

What you will take home

By the end of our day together, you will leave with:

•  Your own collection of unique mixed media collage papers
•  A finished(/ish) mixed media collage artwork or two, to enjoy
